Audi A4 electric window fault diagnosis
A customer was having trouble with the rear passenger window not closing on their Audi A4 estate. The window had previously been able to close by holding the remote key down for 5 seconds which is a security feature to close all windows. However even this wasn't working so polythene sheeting was over the window when the car arrived at the garage. Shawfix Autos undertook a systematic approach to diagnosing the problem. Each door has a separate ECU computer that runs from the main bodycontrol unit. After interogating the systems, the systems and window regulator was found to be in working order. The fault was traced to the window switch in the driver's door. This has an overide facility that prevents children operating the windows from the back seat. The switch was carefully removed after detaching the door card. After cleaning and reassembling the switch unit, normal operation was returned to the windows. The customer was delighted with Shawfix Autos as an expensive visit to the main dealer had been avoided.
