Motoring Make-good Myths
We've heard a few myths about how to fix cars, some true, some not. Like, if your starter motor doesn't work, hit it with a hammer - true or a load of french car wiring? In fact true, we've done this quite often, but it usually does indicate a solenoid or other fault inside that means the unit is faulty. Next one - Using banana skin or toothpaste to polish dulled head light glass? Hmm, I have tried this and it didn't work on my old VW Passat (great car), probably best to spend some money on some metal polish or special product, although the smell was interesting. And Finally - using Coca-Cola (TM) to clean a blocked diesel injector? Hard to say if the problem we had was fixed entirely by tooth rotting fizzy drink or by our systematic fault finding and diagnostic work and injector re-programming but...... the injector did seem blocked and after an overnight dunk in the dark matter it was all okay, make your own mind up!
